When you have a great idea or new innovation, you first have to convince others of the idea. It's not enough to simply tell them about it, you need to show them. Yet we are talking to three different audiences. First and foremost, we have the parents. Parenting has changed dramatically over the last 50 years. Where once parents took responsibility for the basics of upbringing;, manners, respect, integrity, etc., parents now expect teachers to fill that void they are not providing and then blame the teachers for not doing the job he parents should be doing. This is an argument for a different time.
What we can as educators today is change the way we teach. If we can't convince educators to change, how will we ever convince students to change?
